It symbolized the Janissaries' loyalty to the state and was served to important state officials. Its hard and colorful texture was thought to symbolize the state. By eating these akide candies, served during the Ulufe ceremony, the Janissaries would prove their loyalty and obedience to the state, making a promise. They were presented ceremonially at Topkapı Palace. The sultan placed great importance on this candy.
